CONTRAST THERAPY IN ELITE SPORT
PERFORMANCE BENEFITS
Contrast Therapy has been shown to deliver measurable performance-enhancing effects, including:

-
Increased Human Growth Hormone (HGH) production - up to 16x base line - supporting muscle repair, hypertrophy and adaptation.
-
Deeper, more restorative sleep and improved sleep efficiency – vital for recovery and readiness.
-
Quicker recovery from muscle soreness and enhanced tissue repair.
-
Improved muscle endurance and strength of muscle contraction - increased time to exhaustion and power output.
-
Stabilised hormonal health, including seasonal affective disorder, and supported female athletes with their menstrual cycle.
-
Expanded pain tolerance and resilience under pressure - both physical and psychological.
-
Nervous system regulation - supporting composure, focus, and decision-making in high stakes environments.

ROSE'S BACKGROUND & EXPERTISE
Rose Unwin is one of just 25 certified Thermalist® Method Instructors worldwide, personally trained by world renowned metabolic scientist Dr. Susanna Søberg, PhD.
Rose is trained in rigorously researched protocols combining cold exposure, heat therapy, breathwork and focus to enhance human performance, accelerate recovery and strengthen resilience.
Rose is a keen amateur sportswoman, having completed half Ironman distance triathlons and playing competitive Masters hockey. She understands the physical and mental demands of training and competition, which informs her practical, athlete-focused approach to recovery and performance.
Through thermal stress training, she discovered the profound performance benefits of contrast therapy - benefits now being adopted by leading sports teams and athletes to support recovery, adaptability, and competitive edge. Cristiano Ronaldo is a well known advocate of regular contrast therapy.

ROSE'S WORK IN SPORT
-
Work with coaching & performance staff to ensure evidence-based methods support specific performance goals.
-
Deliver team Recovery Camps, using thermal stress and breathwork to enhance athletic performance.
-
Guide athletes through safe, effective contrast therapy sessions that can be adapted to team training schedules.
-
Provide practical 'at home' recovery protocols that integrate seamlessly into existing performance programs.
-
Attend the key events/championships to provide a recovery zone with ice baths, and support athletes at managing their 'on' and 'off' switches (nervous system regulation) throughout the day.
CLIENT CASE STUDY
Rose worked with a former Marine and competitive Masters runner who has been selected for the England Marathon training camp in three separate years.
The day before a race, they planned a specific contrast therapy session with the goal of:
-
Relaxing muscle fibres

Desensitising muscle spindles
-
Closing pain gateways in the spinal cord
-
Reducing inflammation
-
Deepening sleep overnight

The result: he achieved a personal best, and his partner set a new course record, taking 10 seconds off her previous time.
